What to know

Supported files: PDF, DOCX, DOC, XLSX, XLS, PPTX, TXT, CSV and images (JPG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF). Scanned pages with no text layer are read with OCR, which is slower and less exact than digital text.
Old and new emails: Dioveo indexes your whole Gmail history, not only recent mail, and keeps following the mailbox. Claude can ask about any attachment, past or future.
Permissions: Dioveo reads your Gmail through Google OAuth and never modifies it. Claude gets its own scoped connection (search, read text, draft workflows) that you approve on a consent screen and can revoke at any time from Connections or from Claude.
What leaves Dioveo: Only the results of the tools you approved: search hits, page-cited excerpts and extracted values. Files stay in Gmail; the index stays in Dioveo, hosted in the EU. What Claude does with what it receives is governed by your Claude plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does Claude get access to my whole mailbox?

No. Claude gets a scoped connection to Dioveo, not to Gmail. It can search the attachment index, read the text of documents you allow it to read, and draft workflows for you to review. It cannot read your email bodies, send mail or change anything in Gmail.

Is my data sent to Anthropic?

Only what Claude asks for and you approved: search hits, page-cited excerpts and extracted values. The files stay in Gmail and the index stays in Dioveo, hosted in the EU. Anthropic handles what Claude receives under your Claude plan, so check its data settings if that matters to you.

Can Claude read scanned PDFs and photos?

Yes. Documents without a text layer are read with OCR. Scans are harder than digital text, so Claude is told where the reading was uncertain and you should check those values against the original.

What counts as a document read?

The first time the text of a document is read in a month. Reading it again, searching, and asking follow-up questions about the same file are free. The Free plan includes 30 reads per month, Pro 500.

Does this work with ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor?

Yes. The same connection works with any assistant that supports MCP. The connection guide has the setup for each client.

How do I disconnect Claude?

Remove the connection in Dioveo under Connections, or remove the Dioveo connector in Claude. Either way access stops immediately; tokens already issued stop working.

Can Claude analyze attachments across many emails at once?

Yes. A single question can cover hundreds of documents: Claude searches, Dioveo groups the matches into a collection, extracts the fields you named from each one and returns totals or a table. Large runs continue in the background and Claude can check on them.
